West Yorkshire The George Hotel

Opinion

The George Hotel is an elegant Grade II listed hotel, well known around the world as the birthplace of Rugby League in 1895. Situated in the main square  of Huddersfield, the building compliments its neighbour, the Huddersfield Railway Station with its fine Italian facade designed by William Walker.

The George Hotel

The hotel is surrounded by beautiful countryside including the Peak District. Holmfirth, the picturesque village made famous in 'The Last of the Summer Wine', and Haworth Parsonage, home of the literary Bronte family are just some of the nearby visitor attractions.

It has a friendly atmosphere and is popular as a meeting place with local people or to admire memorabilia in the on site rugby league museum.
